That’s a lot of money for a Durango. It will be interesting to see how many they sell but as it stands, I can’t see spending that kind of money on a Durango.

Isn’t that about the same as the related GC SRT? If so, this is the much better deal and — a matter of opinion — much more attractive version. This is more of a hot wagon than SUV. Nice proportions.

Was gonna say, isn’t he Grand Cherokee SRT as if not more pricey than this? I’ve seen GC SRTs around my dead-end hometown. I’m sure the Durango SRT will do fine.

That’s a great point, when you put it that way, the Durango does seem like a great deal

I can’t even tell you the last time I’ve seen a recent (say within the last 3-4 years) on the road. I guess people must still be buying them.

Your mistake is looking at the price and not the residuals, lease cash, and MF. I honestly don’t know who buys 392/6.4L FCA products, they’re all leased then bought second hand. You could get a 392 Daytona with options for a little over $500 a month with $1500 at signing (first months payment plus tax) a few months ago with all the incentives.

That being said, my wife bought a Durango for work (she has to haul so many medical devices it’s obscene) and we really like it so far, though I know time will tell how the FCA holds up. A comparable Tahoe is $12K more. If you need a new 3 row SUV nothing compares at the price except the explorer (and I’m really not a fan of them).

I just came back from a roadtrip to the beach and they’re freaking everywhere (on par with Odysseys, slightly behind Tahoes and the like). I don’t see them around town so much, but they must be selling really well.

Sooooo about twice the price for twice the horsepower of ours. NEAT.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

You can buy an X5 xDrive40 for that money, or the twin turbo V8 xDrive50 for an extra 9k. After depretiation, the BMW is probably cheaper after the first 3 years.

True...but TBH, the X5 is tiny inside by comparison — I don ’ t imagine they get cross - shopped much (Durango competes more directly with Traverse/Acadia and Explorer, as well as minivans, none of which have a hot - rod version). And I ’ d never buy a new FCA product, that ’ s like financial suicide :D

I would go out on a limb and view this is a cheaper version of a Mercedes GL-class. Comparable size and performance.

Got a chance to take a Durango V8 for a spin recently and I was pretty unimpressed with the interior. Creaky and squeaky and the design was just really plain. Kinda questioned just how much time and thought went into the interior design actually. I liked that the DIC displayed speed with a big prominent number. The gauges weren’t all that bad in general I guess, but I thought the tach looked a little weird as a semicircle.

That being said, these cars are still not as big on the inside as the K2XX trucks, especially the Grand Cherokee. Might as well spend this 64k on an X5 or Rangie after all.

Something just occurred to me... For $64K you could buy...

One of these, and be quicker with a better driving experience:

And one of these, and more easily transport people around:

Now you’re getting to the real crux of the issue.

Where’s my TT minivan with 450hp?

Yeah, pretty much this. The Durango can be a lot of things, but a sleeper is most definitely is not.

Wait, what? The Durango is a effectively just a stretched Grand Cherokee.

Have you looked inside a Durango?

And again, after 3 years, the X5 is going to fetch nearly the difference back in trade-in/private party sale, making it a wash.

Show me an X5 with a Hemi then we can begin to think about talking, until then, MOPAR OR NO CAR.

What trim level? There is a major difference in quality between trim levels on FCA vehicles.

If a hemi’s what you’re after, that kind of derails the whole conversation.

The TT V8 in the X5 isn’t bad. But you do need to like your mechanic

Couldn’t tell you. It had the 5.7l, it was relatively new, and it had navigation.

The GC SRT is $67k. The Durango is basically a long-wheelbase Grand Cherokee. I might also lean towards the Durango. The back seat in the Grand Cherokee is ok but really not all that great for the overall size of the vehicle. It does have the available rear eLSD that’s not on the Durango, and those different terrain modes. But the Durango still has a center eLSD and a locked low range mode so for getting around town in winter I’m sure the Durango is still fine.

Yeah, I mean the SRT is cool but it’s hard to argue with a minivan and a Mustang. Would definitely save on gas

Kinja'd!!! RT > Ash78, voting early and often

Yeah, which means that the Cherokee at least isn’t that much bigger than a comparable X5.

Of course the Durango is bigger, though apart from special circumstances, I’d go for a Range Rover or something instead.

I think you’re looking at this wrong. The majority of modern car buyers aren’t looking at the $64,000 question. They’re more concerned with making it affordable on a monthly basis.

MSRP is crazy on “full sized” SUVs - the LT Tahoe loaner I had a few weeks ago stickered at over $56g. Escalades are another 15 grand on top of that or more.
